About Us

In June of 1965 an abandoned fish cannery on the South Portland shore of the Fore River was converted into a small marina. By the winter of 1974 the marina had only experienced limited growth, provided few services and had less than 20 usable boat slips. In April of 1974 the marina was sold to Robert C. Soucy, Sr. and under his management expanded to a full service marina. Sales of boats and motors were added. Slips increased to 30 and 30 moorings were added.
In 1979 Port Harbor Marine was the successful bidder to develop a new marina with the City of South Portland. In 1980 Port Harbor Marine sold its old location and relocated to its present location on Spring Point Drive. Spring Point Marina consists of over 18,000 square feet of buildings on 6 acres of land and 250 boat slips on 6 acres of water, making us one of the largest marine dealer/marina facilities in the Northeast. Since then Port Harbor Marine has become the leader and trendsetter for the marine industry in the Northeast.
In 1989, Breakwater Marina, a 121 slip dockominium marina was built adjacent to Spring Point Marina. In 1993 Port Harbor Marine purchased 104 of the 121 slips and was awarded management of the marina. Breakwater’s premier slips continue to be a valued addition to our company and sought after by our customers.
In 1993 Port Harbor Marine opened its first satellite location in Brewer, Maine. This full service facility offers boats, motors, trailers, parts and accessories, sales and service. Port Harbor Marine is now the leading provider of marine recreational products in the Bangor and Brewer region.
In 1995 Port Harbor Marine opened the “Outlet Store”, a satellite location in South Portland, to market and sell aluminum products, used boats, and discontinued products. In late 1997 this “Outlet” was relocated to Saco, ME. In the fall of 2006 it was decided to close the “Outlet” until a more suitable location was found that would fit Port Harbor’s needs.
In late 1996 Port Harbor Marine was fortunate enough to acquire highly respected and successful Jordan Bay Marina. Located on several acres on Sebago Lake in Raymond, Maine, this full service facility offers slip space for 50 boats, dry stack service for 150 boats, sales and service of boats, motors, trailers, parts and accessories and boat rentals . The addition of Jordan Bay Marina to the Port Harbor Marine family improved our ability to service our customers in the Lakes Region.
In 1996 Port Harbor Marine was the successful bidder to develop and construct a new marina in the town of Bucksport, ME. In 1997 the first phase of construction was completed and the new “Bucksport Marina” opened for business. Phase two, completed in 1998, provided for 36 seasonal slips, deep water transient slips with up to 100’ fuel and accessories sales. In 2004 the marina was expanded to 46 slips. The beautiful setting and panoramic view made this an excellent location for another Port Harbor Marine facility. This marina was sold to the Town of Bucksport in the spring of 2014 to focus our efforts on our Holden location.
In December of 2000, Port Harbor Marine purchased 120 Breakwater Annex in South Portland. The property is located within a ¼ mile of our Spring Point Marina and Breakwater Marina slips and allowed us to expand our sales and service operations. 9,000sf was being used as our new Delivery Center, improving our customers’ total sales experience. The facility also accommodated our new dock construction projects and provided additional storage space for our customers.
In 2002 Port Harbor moved our Brewer location to a new larger facility on Route 1A in Holden, Maine. This full service highway location has recently remodeled its showroom and offices, has indoor service bays and offers offsite storage at a location nearby. Our Holden location is succeeding in being a leader in boat sales and also offers boat rentals to the surrounding area.
In September of 2005, Port Harbor Marine purchased Wayfarer Marine’s location in Rockport, Maine. The Rockport location is a valuable addition the Port Harbor Marine family. It is a fairly new facility that offers boats, motors, trailers, parts and accessories sales, as well as storage and a full service department. We are proud to have added an excellent crew to our team and happy to have been able to expand to this area of Maine.
In 2007, ownership of Port Harbor was transferred from Robert C. Soucy, Sr., to his sons; Robert C. Soucy, Jr., Michael and Marc Soucy, who have spent many years of their lives promoting the Port Harbor Lifestyle and they are dedicated to continuing the success that their father achieved. Owners and management of Port Harbor Marine are committed to continue the growth of the company and maintain its position of leadership in the marine recreational industry. We will maintain our leadership position by providing quality products and service with exceptional customer care. It is also our commitment to maintain this leadership by operating a financially strong and profitable company.
In June 2008 we opened a new satellite location in Kittery, Maine that provides us with more possibilities than previous “Outlet” locations. Our Kittery location offers parts and accessories, service and storage in addition to boat sales from this prime location at 50 US Route One Bypass.
In the fall of 2013, we sold our 120 Breakwater Annex property and bought our new facility at 130 Breakwater Drive in South Portland. This property is a much more modern and larger space for our Dock Building Projects and Sales Delivery areas, as well as housing several tenants in the office areas. In addition it offers a secure, fenced lot with plenty of boat storage areas for our customers.
Our most recent improvement was also our most expansive and largest investment to date, renovating our aging Raymond facility. The project, which started in the winter of 2014 and concluded in the summer of 2015, involved a $1,000,000 renovation to our existing storage building to house all of our sales, parts, service and business operations, as well as the demolition of the old and inefficient operations building. The project expanded to the purchase of the property across the street which now offers increase storage and boat display area, giving us exposure on both sides of Route 302, the busiest East/West corridor in Maine.
It is our desire to establish a long and beneficial association with all our customers, crewmembers and vendors. There are many opportunities for personal growth and achievement within the company and rewards are equal to achievement. Our wages and benefits are designed to keep us the leader in our field. Port Harbor Marine attempts to offer an environment where responsible, mature, crewmembers can grow and prosper along with the company’s growth and prosperity. We will try our utmost to be a responsible, to be fair to all and to earn your respect and trust.
Our endeavor is to hire only those persons who do not require constant discipline or close supervision of their every action. Port Harbor Marine is the state’s largest and most progressively managed marine dealer with an excellent reputation for quality and reliability, and we need crewmembers willing to adopt this kind of dedication if we hope to reach our goals. The company expects each crewmember to be concerned about efficient growth, excellent customer relations, cooperation with fellow crewmembers and the right of the company to achieve its fair and just objectives. We employ 70 fulltime crewmembers, 20 of them year round, and during peak season we have up to 85 crewmembers statewide to assist with our customers’ boating needs.
We are proud of our company and our crewmembers. We believe that Port Harbor Marine provides the best services available to the boating community and want to continue this tradition. Therefore, it is important to understand that we never forget that the customer is the reason we are here.
Sincerely, Rob, Marc & Mike Soucy
